It’s You-Know-What Time

Friday, April 28th, 2006

At first wanted to use a more explicit (as in less subtle, not vulgar!) title, but decided against it in case it turns up in some search engine & I’m sued for blogging about the… erm… General Non-Elections (for me). Kena sue no fun one you know… Just look at those people who kena sue by the You-Know-Who(s)!

Anyway Miyagi and Brown have got this wonderful piece of advice: "Remember, prison got no broadband!" So better don’t say any political stuff in this period, especially against the ruling party!

OK, chope! Enough! I’m no fan of lawsuits, definitely not if I’m the defendant against a plaintiff that never loses! Anyway received my Progress Package money (I’m trying my best to phrase it very neutrally here you know…) today. Solved my problem of trying to ensure my bank account has a balance of $500 so that I don’t have to pay the administrative charge. Oops, does this amount to blogging about the *** too, since everyone said it’s related? Alamak, better not say again. I remember how the Straits Times fella kena shot down on national TV for using the word "everybody"…

OK, talk about exams. Should be safe right? Think so lah, hor? Finally exams over yesterday, and I can go back to my X Box while preparing to start work again. Better start work soon, since I’m trying to save up for a trip in July with The Wife and our good friends. After all I don’t come from a rich family, and even if I do I probably will not want to keep depending on my parents at this age, although I know of some people who do!

Saw something yesterday while going towards the exam hall. Then it got me thinking again. I think that for me and probably most of my friends, we would probably be embarassed if we had a 5pm paper and we needed our mamas to take time off from work and drive us to school at 4+ for the paper. But well, there are really people like that. First, what’s wrong with taking the public transport? OK 151 screws up often, but what’s wrong with taking an earlier bus to ensure that we reach school on time? After all it’s a 5pm paper, not 9am. Setting home at 3.30pm for school can’t be too much to ask for right? AND, even if we really wanted to avoid taking public transport, I guess we would take the car and drive to school instead of asking to be DRIVEN to school?

That brings another point: independence. Probably the reason why these people need to be DRIVEN by mamas who take time off from work is because they can’t drive! So what do they do during the holidays? Well they go attend tea parties with the tai tais (eg their mamas), learn to play golf, learn social dances, learn singing to take part in the Singapore Idol, learn the piano, go for aerobics classes (which wouldn’t have been necessary if they helped out with the household chores, trust me!) etc with their rich mama/papa’s money. But they don’t go for driving lessons, because it’s useless and non-constructive. It’s pretty obvious that such things are lower on everyone’s priority list when there are much more important things to be done, like those listed above!

Vacation work is definitely out of the question. These fragile little souls will probably either have their backs or limbs broken or end up crying after experiencing the "rigours" of work. After all work is meant for the much-less-wealthy employees of their parents so that their parents have time to drive them anywhere, anytime. Even studying for exams they will cry because it is too stressful, and these protected angels are not supposed to face such tribulations that are meant for poor folks’ kids like us.

Sorry for getting carried away… So what’s my point? No, honestly, this is not a concealed election commentary that I know some people do by pretending to be speaking about social issues or using analogies with regards to their families etc. Such people exist in reality, and in abundance, if I may say so. Just wondering, how can we trust such people at 20+ years of age but not having the independence of a 16-year-old (probably an "average" 16-year-old can survive much better on their own than these protected kids) to decide on our behalf who should make up the government? Can you believe that these people’s votes are actually going to decide for us who ends up ruling the country?

OK let’s not go back to the ***. Think it’s been a mouthful. Shall stop here. Btw, comments are very welcome here, although I do not necessary endorse your comments. Because I had expected some comments from the previous posts but apparently I thought wrong.

Just to leave you with what kind of world exists outside this very protected place we live in called Singapore. I admit that in comparison with our future rivals in business/jobs etc, I too am way behind these global competitors in many aspects, like survival skills, independence and being streetwise. Now We Know Why…

Back again, if only for awhile, yet again. This is the exams period. crazy projects are finally over. Now is another type of stress. Anyway, if you guys have not realised, there was a link in my previous posting to something cool. Remember to take a look k? Really pretty impressive!

Anyway saw something interesting while watching the news yesterday. It said that there is a developing trend in some of China’s cities during the past few years. As we know the one-child policy is causing some parents to spoil their children rotten in China, which is one big reason why so many of them are unpopular everywhere else in the world they go. Anyway it was said that in some of the cities, the old (probably retired) parents of these now grown-up pioneer one-child families are doing even more for their working children. These old folks are getting up earlier in the mornings to join the queue for public transport on behalf of their spoilt brats so that those bastards can get out of bed 1/2 to 1 hour later! The parents go join the queues when those spolit brats are taking their breakfast and getting ready to go to work!

Now we know why those bastards don’t seem to know how to queue when we encounter them in our local shops/public transport lines etc. It is because their parents do it for them back home! The appalling thing is that they were not little kids queuing for buses to school, but full-grown working adults! I honestly believe that the main reason why China is producing all these self-centred fuckers is because of this one-child policy. I really can’t imagine how any self-respecting living creature with a conscience and a sense of shame can happily enjoy his/her breakfast while making the aged parents brave the sun and rain a couple of streets away in order to queue for the bus/train on their behalf! I would never allow my parents to do such a thing for me, not even once in awhile- not to mention every single day, come rain or shine!

Well, hope we in Singapore will never degenerate to such a state. Keep our fingers crossed! Enough of those non-people. Wish me good luck for my exams! Hehe. And yes, remember to look at that link if you have not already done so. Cheers!   :)

Oh yes, this advertisement for the local slave trade below is unfortunately one of the signs that we in Singapore have begun to degenerate like our China counterparts. Wonder if the boss of this slavery agency works in his shop all 365 days each year, 12 hours minimum per day…

Back- By Popular Demand

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

A certain friend of mine was asking me just now why so long no blog? Apparently maybe she missed my blogging, so I’m back- by popular demand. Thanks Huili for giving me an excuse to take a break from work. Hehe.

Well it’s been a crazy month. Presentations and reports and tests. No break, but lots of overlaps. The craziest thing happened yesterday for the P&G Clairol Herbal Essences presentation when one of the appointed presentors for our group had a fever and could not turn up. She asked me to take over her part- 2.5 hours before the presentation! My first time seeing her part was about 1 hour before the presentation. Now I know I’m cut out to be a salesman haha. Managed to somehow smoke the people from P&G as well as the lecturer.. Or so I hope!

OK that’s enough of a break. Another presentation tomorrow before we break for exams. You’re welcome Huili!   :P

By the way I will post some pictures from our presentations. Look at the photo album if interested k? Cheers!   ;)

By the way here’s a trailer for a new animated series. I was actually impressed by its quality, at least from that few minutes of it. Guess where it came from and you’ll be surprised. This may take away some of the arrogance and condescending attitude that some of us Singaporeans have.
