Help!!! It’s a Monster!!!

Thursday, October 27th, 2005

Haha just some background info before I begin the story. There is this guy in the same certain tutorial class as me. Huili and I both think he is a bapok. Anyway there was a funny encounter with him a couple of days ago. It was after the tutorial and I happened to be queueing behind him at a particular food stall in the canteen. Just as he had placed his order and I was going to place mine, he suddenly went "EEeeeeeeyyurrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!" So I looked at him and asked what’s the matter. Then he pointed in an undiscribeable manner (More ladylike than most of my female friends) at the stall, "Look! Isn’t that gross? I shouldn’t have chosen to eat at this stall! Yucks! This food cannot be eaten! etc etc…

Preparing myself for the worst, I turned to look. & my worst fears came true. There was this gigantic insect the size of a pimple flying around! An infestation, a colony numbering a grand total of ONE! Worse still, it had a head that bore kind of a resemblance to the Esplanade! Now, isn’t that gross, like he animatedly exclaimed? What a monster! And what business had it flying around the stall? In the first place there was no reason for it to appear in the canteen in the first place! It does not make an appearance at any human-inhabitated area, definitely not near any food establishments. Doesn’t anyone know that that solitary housefly could single-handedly infect the entire nation with a plague? Furthermore with the avian flu and dengue fears we should view any flying object with suspicion! That food must certainly not be eaten! There was an urgent need to call in the police, the NEA, the SPCA, ghostbusters and also the ICA. That entire canteen also had to be evacuated without any delay! What are you laughing at? This is serious matter! What an adventure! Don’t sissies add colour to our lives? Needless to say, I lost my appetite for lunch and let’s just blame it on the housefly for an untimely appearance.

Anyway finally the torturous Biz Com project is all over! Presentation was over this afternoon, and it is a great relief! One more month to holidays!

If anyone needs to de-stress this weekend, there is a movie I have to recommend. The 40-year-old virgin. Although the storyline is pretty predictable and it is full of slapstick comedy, brainless stuff, it was pretty entertaining. Have my laopo to thank for getting me to watch the movie with her. It’s really good fun with no need to work your brains too hard. It’s worth that 2 hours, but whether it’s worth e weekend-rate ticket will depend on yourself. But I’m serious now, it’s really pretty good fun watching that movie. But just a word of warning: there’s some nudity in that show. Definitely not for little boys and girls who CAN watch Jackie Chan jump across buildings, people stabbing each other with knives, hitting one another on the heads with beer bottles, picking fights in the name of "righteousness", ghosts killing people etc  BUT NOT ALLOWED to  discover that adult women have breasts, or mummy & daddy have sex in order to make babies. At least according to the standards set by the censorship people. Opps, better not say more in case I also kena censor!

Just in case you people have things to say about this, maybe you should open this link and read the stuff first, before you decide whether you still want to say anything. Going off to rest liao, after a super exhausting week. See you next time, hopefully… If I’m not "censor-ed"!  :P

Prepare to Laugh your Ass Off!

Monday, October 24th, 2005

Hehe before I go into it, just something to say: Chelsea didn’t win! Haha. Although I had put my money on a Chelsea win, I was more than happy to lose that wager. Finally… & to a cannot-make-it team somemore! Power lah!

OK now for the subject of this posting. Came upon something when reading Mr Miyagi’s blog. Super funny… Decided to risk a lawsuit etc & show you all what it is all about. Simply hilarious! By the way please do not go around talking about this k? Not very nice to infringe on another’s copyright, but this is really funny! Here it goes:

Haha on second, third, fourth etc thoughts, guess it’s really unethical to just lift stuff off other peoples’ blogs. So just go see for yourself lah. Oh since I’m at it, here’s another 1 for those of you who can understand Hokkien. Oh by the way remember to turn up your volume.

http://blog.galvintan.com/?p=97

OK signing off liao. Hope I’ve sufficiently entertained you all (with external help) to keep you from missing me to much. Keke. Super busy week ahead… Sienz… Take care you all! Byebye…   :P

Drained…

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Wah today really drained… In all sense of the word… Must have many scared people seeing this beanpole pale-faced zombie walking around NUS today… Worst part was this zombie was walking around with a bright luminous orange-coloured bandage with hundreds of smiley faces on it… Bet act cute zombies must have been a first for those spooked people. They must have thought Halloween came early.

Speaking about Halloween… I have got complimentary passes to Club Momo for Halloween party, 1 complimentary drink included. Please contact me if interested. prices subject to customer attitude, but please quote something reasonable, because it was literally acquired with my sweat & blood… Haha. Anyway limited stocks, so mai tu liao ok!   :P

Mentally drained… Although I have work to do, but I really don’t feel like doing anything too draining on my brains… Hehe maybe that’s why I’m rambling off here. This sem is really taking its toll on me… I need a break real soon!

To make things worse, I was also physically drained today… Drained of my blood. Donated blood after like about 1 year… Felt the effects soon after that man! Went with Tengyuan… & felt abit guilty after that because our donating blood caused both of us to be late for the lecture… I felt bad as we were there because I jio-ed him to go along… But it was pretty funny after that… 2 ah peks climing stairs at YIH underpass & almost collapsing after getting to the top… Haha luckily not many people around… Otherwise malu sia! But the bandage they gave us was damn act cute! Haha. Should have taken a picture before taking it off… Lol. But anyway felt good after that lah. Maybe it’s self-consolation that I was doing something to accumulate good kharma before the exams… Feel abit better even though I have not been working much hehe.

Very sienz to blog nowadays… But thanks for those of you who have expressed your concern about me not blogging regularly recently… It feels restrictive with the current atmosphere in the blogging world, & it is even worse when people also don’t want to contribute comments etc for the same reasons… Lack of motivation/inspiration.

Oh ya btw, have to say something about what I saw yesterday… I saw this girl in school who was wearing a pink micro-mini-skirt. I think most girls’ shorts in school will be even longer than her skirt lor. Serious, no kidding! It was really those just nice cover the butt type. Then when I was walking up the stairs and she was in front of me, everything could be seen! Wah lau eh, I must really comment here. Firstly, I do not approve in general of girls who dress like that. I mean, you dress like prostitute and kena rape, who is to blame? Secondly, she was wearing an over-sized ugly underwear below that skirt. Gross! If you expect to show off more than you are supposed to, don’t you think you should at least wear something nicer inside? No wonder I lost money on Real Madrid this morning… Damn!

Anyway I have a sneaking suspicion that my theory is right. Girls who usually dress like prostitute are normally those who are: 1) Ugly or 2) Fat or 3) Prostitutes or 4) Combinations of the above. Why can’t the prettier ones dress like that for a change? Then maybe I won’t complain so much… Hehe

Well shall stop here… My brain is really not functioning liao. Till the next time, take care & have a great weekend!   :0

The writer wishes to advise all readers: It is not a good idea to donate blood after waking up at 2.45am to watch 2 hours of Liverpool missing chances in front of goal and vomiting alot of blood. In such situations you are lucky if you survive without needing blood transfusions, so don’t gey kiang go donate blood. The side effects include: Blogging nonsense; Acting cute with smiley-faced bandages; feeling weak and drained, being late for lesson etc… Please do not try this at home…

Sad Day…

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Think most of you should have already heard about the earthquake in Kashmir. If anyone has not, "Hello!!! Welcome to earth!!!" Anyway in no mood to be funny or sarcastic or whetever. I think it is very sad. 2 countries that has been at each others’ throats & even aiming nuclear warheads at each other over Kashmir. Suddenly Nature decides to teach them a lesson and destroys the very piece of land they have been killing each other over. It really saddens me whenever such disasters occur. Maybe this is Nature’s way to remind us that no matter how highly we think of ourselves, that we can think we are ruling the world, have created weapons of mass destruction, killing people in terrorist attacks etc… Nature still calls the shots. If we want to carry on living on this planet we’ve got to play by its rules and not play God or assume we are in charge.

Was watching the England vs Austria match on TV last night. Then when it was half-time I switched over to BBC to catch some news when the breaking news broke out about the earthquake. Death toll at that time was about 1000. Did not strike me at that time how bad it could get. But this morning when I watched the morning news on BBC again, the death toll had risen to more than 18000. By dinner time I think I saw more than 20000 or thereabouts. Imagine, 20000! If an "average" (if ever there is an average for this) plane crash takes about 200 lives and affects so many people & causes so many parents, spouses, children etc to cry on TV… Imagine this time it is worth more than 100 plane crashes worth of dead people! 100 times the grieving relatives and friends! And this time they are not grieving or crying in the airport lounge or their hotel rooms but fighting for survival, tending to the wounded and grieving for the dead all at the same time! Guess this is something that we spoilt/pampered brats in Singapore will never understand.

Anyway for everyone reading this, just a little something to ask of you all: spare a couple of minutes praying for the victims of this disaster. If you have not religion, just a moment of silence to remember these people and to count your blessings. If possible we should also find ways to help the survivors get back on their feet, probably through the Red Cross or something. Such incidences really strike me and pain me, like when the great tsunami happened also. Moral of the story: don’t mess with Nature, it is too great for us to handle, the stakes are also too high for us to manage.

It is also when such things happen that I wonder: why are people killing one another in such huge numbers everywhere? The terrorists, the war-mongering nations etc. Do they think there isn’t enough suffering in the world as it is? Do lives mean so little to them? Or have these people lost their "human" side? I don’t know. All I know is we need more "peaceful" people in this world. Many more. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, even John Lennon.

Alright enough of this soppy stuff. Let’s try to start the week on a reflective but optimistic mood. Hope things will start looking up.

For the benefit of the kaypohs out there: The latest development of the story since the last posting: Showed my laopo her email yesterday, and realised that she had blocked me from her profile, probably after reading my last posting. Think I can also assume she will not access my profile/blog again, and be very open and frank about all this now. Well I admit I was mean. But after all that has happened, that was my way of getting some closure. Had tried to be back on friendly terms after our break-up, but was shunned and even threatened by her mum who accused me of harrassing her daughter. She even went to the point of blaming it on me when her 2 daughters kept quarreling. I don’t know what that has to do with me but it’s a shame that after that I stayed away from her younger daughter as well even though we were on pretty good terms and I had always treated her like my kid sister. I hope she doesn’t blame me for blocking her from MSN etc because I also had my difficulty, especially when she kept telling me I was better than her sister’s current boyfriend and argued with her sister on that point etc.

Well anyway like she said in her email, the "misunderstanding" between us is just too great. Maybe I would just add that it is really too great to be resolved, and that was why I just chose to be deliberately mean to chase her away get her to leave everything behind. The bridges were burnt when I was shunned and accused after genuinely offering to make peace. Now all I can do is wish her, and even more so her sister, the best and pray that our paths will never cross ever again. But I’m really glad that my laopo is more than enough motivation for me to just put the whole episode behind me and get on with my life. A life ahead of me with her very much in the picture really gives me the extra energy and mental resolve I need sometimes.

Well going off now. Pretty tiring week doing project etc. Need a good rest to start the week on a right note. Have a great week everyone. Take care and remember to pray for the people affected by the earthquake in Kashmir. Little gestures can help make this world a more bearable place to live in.

The writer experienced a warning of the earthquake a few days ago when the built-in wall mirror in his bathroom shattered for no apparent reason. Later on it was found out that the wooden supporting structure for the mirror had warped with water seepage, causing the physical strain on the mirror which resulted in the shatter. Fortunately nobody was hurt. Anyway because of that the writer now declares he comes from a broken home. Donations can be made in cheque, cash or in kind. For enquiries feel free to email the beneficiary. Sponsors’s names will be listed in the next posting to show appreciation for your philantropy. The Monologue Continues…

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

Wah very sienz ah, really nobody comments on my blog nowadays… very boring. This feels like one of those 1-man show performances when the audience watches one person perform on stage for the whole theatre performance. Abit like the Jack Neo thingy sometime ago when he performed solo on stage for a full couple of hours.

Oh anyway to my Muslim friends, Selamat Berpuasa! Especially to my kakak who is already small-sized as she is without the puasa, please try to stock up more fuel in the mornings and when you buka puasa k? Haha don’t think you can afford to lose much more… For the rest of you, this might be the best chance for you to lose some weight! Haha… Anyway, endure lah, just look forward to Hari Raya Puasa. At least this period has got a happy ending!

Anyway finally finished with my programme. Spent the whole week doing some programming shit which is really the greatest achievement I’ve ever had with my computer! Never thought that I would actually accomplish something so complex with my computer, ever! This is like a miracle haha. But anyway have to admit, I did seek some external help with the assignment, & I have to thank Kok Heng for so kindly offering to stay back in school with me till pretty late on Monday night to help me get started on that programme. You are really a buddy man!

Oh yes, the visitor counter for friendster haha. When I logged on, I saw that 9 people had visited my profile/blog since the beginning of the month, but among those 9, only 1 had not viewed it anonymously! I find this very weird… Why do people have to turn on that feature of viewing other people’s profiles anonymously? So what if they know you have seen their profiles? I dunno. Maybe it’s just not my style to do things on the sly such that I don’t understand such behaviour of always liking to do things in the dark. Huili, you must be one of them right? Sneaky person who asked me how to turn on that anonymous feature… Hehe

Oh yes, reminds me… Apparently one of the subjects in question in my previous blog posting had something to say. And I received an email from her, probably because if she had simply commented here the comment would end up longer than my posting. Anyway she was explaining that the reason she had been visiting my blog etc was just her way of finding out how I am doing & expressing concern etc. Probably that explains why when I saw her profile in the visitor list last week and clicked on her profile, it said that her profile is only accessible to people in her friends list. She doesn’t want others to show her concern & know how well she is doing? Whatever… Just for the record & to satisfy those of you who have been speculating & making your speculations known to me, no less: she did not explain why her beloved boyfriend appeared in that list though. Presumably it is to also show concern. Let’s just leave it at that.

Anyway the rest of the contents of that email was basically just to explain the reasons why she snubbed me when I tred to say Hi on several occasions when we both appeared at the same place at the same time. The reason could be summarised that the reason boiled down to me making her feel uncomfortable as I am a hooligan, immature, hot-tempered, contemptible etc etc… However she did say at the end of the email that whatever I’ve just said above had not been her intention. She even has been trying to get back to talking terms with me, according to her. Is that an example of words not corresponding with action? Am I too cynical? Does she lack in tact? Is it a combination of these? Frankly I don’t give a damn. Ryu and I had a discussion of this issue and we both had a good laugh at it all. Period. Whatever it is I am not going to reply to that email because my mum had been coerced into promising she will keep me away from her, and I will uphold my Mother’s honour. Whatever that mother-&-daughter pairing are up to I don’t care. if you are reading this, just take it that everything between us was, is & will continue to be my fault k? I’m telling you this publicly because I like to be aboveboard in my actions. I have a higher threshold for tolerance when people are only up against me, but whoever does a disservice to my parents do not get away with it. And not to worry there can be nothing that can be held against me because I will ensure whatever I do will be legal and aboveboard.

OK enough about that. Shall not spoil the day for myself. Wouldn’t want to risk lawsuits too. As mentioned before even if I say nothing wrong, I can’t ensure that nothing happens to me because I can’t afford an expensive lawyer if the need arises. Anyway must say I quite heng sia. I thought that after the Bali bombings the value of my ruppiah will drop faster than my jaws if I saw a super model undressing. But somehow that didn’t happen. On hindsight maybe it’s because the ruppiah is weak enough as it is and the speculators had already given up on it a long time ago. So when the bombings happened there were no speculators left to dump the currency so the value did not fall as much as was expected. Phew! But must say the Euro is disappointing, especially after the German elections and the stalled talks with Turkey. This is the main reason for my poor cash flows and poor liquidity of my assets. Should not have placed so much confidence in the Euro, but life should not be about regrets so, nevermind! I will pick myself up! Anyway whatever I made for the Ringgit during the revaluation is more than enough to cover these losses.

Anyway just for the benefit of would-be terrorists etc, I have the following to share. Seems that there have been several cases already that the apparent suicide bombers had not wanted to die, and they were no told they were supposed to die. In other words they were ppleyed out by the leaders. The London case is one of the best examples. Are such bosses better than the targets? Not sure, but anyway just take a look at his & try to think about the meaning:

DULCE ET DECORUM EST1

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares2 we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest3 began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots4
Of tired, outstripped5 Five-Nines6 that dropped behind.

Gas!7 Gas! Quick, boys! –  An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets8 just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound’ring like a man in fire or lime9 . . .
Dim, through the misty panes10 and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering,11 choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil’s sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud12
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest13
To children ardent14 for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.15

8 October 1917 - March, 1918

1 DULCE ET DECORUM EST - the first words of a Latin saying (taken from an ode by Horace). The words were widely understood and often quoted at the start of the First World War. They mean "It is sweet and right." The full saying ends the poem: Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori - it is sweet and right to die for your country. In other words, it is a wonderful and great honour to fight and die for your country
