Damn SBS!

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Wah lau eh, buey tahan, really must complain again sia! Hate the stupid SBS ah! Everytime 151 gives me lots of problems getting to school! Just 2 days ago was very late for school because I waited a whole 30 minutes with Ben at the stop across Ngee Ann for the bus which won’t come! Was supposed to be slightly early but ended up late. Finally the bus came, but it was packed & we barely managed to get up the stupid non-aircon bus. Pity the people who could only stare at the bus leaving without them. Fortunately I had the huge Ben "opening the way" for me by pushing his way up the bus so that we could both get on. Haha that guy forgets about chivalry or gentlemanly behaviour when he’s in a hurry!

Anyway that wasn’t the end of the story. The bus was really packed with people that we barely had enough room to stand without squashing some of the smaller passengers. Haha luckily I’m not very small size, although I do look microscopic beside Ben haha. & it reminded me of that time I was trying to do a 5km run after a long lay off… The auntie walking on the pedestrian walkway could enjoy her morning walk while chatting with her granddaughter on the bus! That was also part of the reason why I was so late! It didn’t help that when we got off the slow & stuffy bus both Ben & I looked like we always do when we come out of the gym…

Then today another even worse thing happened. Was on the way back from school. As usual waited more than 10 minutes before 151 came, & by the time it came the bus stop was overflowing with people. Then the usual mad rush to get on the bus… Heard that the first to get on the bus will get home first… Anyway again barely made it on the bus… Was standing at the stairs. I was trying to put my wallet back into my trouser pocket when the bus started moving off pretty suddenly. It was at this point in time when the girl standing at the steps of the entrance was thrown forward pretty awkwardly and she landed with her chest on the back of my hand which was trying to return my wallet to the pocket! What was worse was that she stared at me like I was the one who had deliberately thrown her off balance. To add insult to injury, she was damn ugly! What was she thinking man! I think I had emptied the bottle of shower foam on my hand when I got home. Choi! Just my luck…

Have had many lousy experiences with 151… & SBS does not seem to be interested in the complaints that we send them. Maybe the reason to this is that the route of 151 serves mainly students. Ngee Ann Poly, SIM, SMU, NUS & several other Secondary Schools & JCs. We all pay our fares using the pre-paid monthly pass. What that implies is that if SBS increases the frequency of the buses, it will only be using up more resources but still earning the same revenue because they have already collected their money at the pass top-up machine. So it does not make business sense for them to increase their costs without increasing revenue, since we do not pay up only when we board the bus like the normal-fare paying passengers do. That it seems, is also the reason why they use only non-aircon buses to ply this route: because air-con fares cost more, and they can earn more revenue from the "other" passengers again. What’s the use of wasting the air-con buses on us, the pass-using passengers. After all the public transport companies in Singapore are so concerned about their profits, as shown to us when they insisted on increasing fares when their PROFIT levels went down. Just wondering how many other public transport companies in the world have any profits to speak about, not to mention falling profits…

Hehe just a naughty idea… Maybe for next year’s National Day Rally, if it’s to be held at the NUS University Cultural Centre again, they should let the PM, SM, MM, ministers, VIPs & guests take the bus to the venue & let them have an experience of the "wonderful" journey we, the supposed future leaders of the country, take to school everyday. Maybe they will be impressed too. Wonder how it will be when everyone turns on the TV set to hear an announcement that the Prime Minister is late for the lecture because he is still stuck at the Ngee Ann bus stop waiting for the past half hour for the fucking 151 to turn up, only to realise that it is full when it does arrive & he has to wait for another 3 buses before he manages to get some room standing on the steps of the entrance to the bus! Bet that will be a wonderful experience for the VIPs, an experience of arriving late, frustrated & full of sweat at the lecture, an experience of unable to get on the bus & having the bus driver wave them off to wait for the next one, experience waiting half hour for the next bus to come, & maybe even experience a sweaty breast or two, if they are "lucky" enough like me…

Shall not continue further, because it is making my blood boil… Wonder when SBS will wake up their idea. Maybe when an NUS grad becomes the next transport minister? Haha hope it is not too late for them then if it does turn out that way… Anyway cheers, people… Weekend is coming. Take care!

The writer of this under utilised & under-read & under-commented blog has been so traumatised by the experience that he has developed averse reactions to women who like to give "half-ball", especially when they are so damn ugly! Breast enhancement/firming etc advertisements are also a trigger for convulsions & the legendary "Lady MacBeth hand-washing ritual". Please do not try him… He is already having nitghmares about the traumatic incident… However a hug from his laopo will definitely be good mitigation for his condition, or so he claims…

Very sienz…

Sighz, school is starting to pick up pace, cannot slack liao. Now starting to have presentations, project meetings, tutorials etc liao. Sucks man! As if to make things worse, the stupid CORS server went down yesterday & caused alot of cock-ups for the tutorial balloting. I’ve coined a new name for CORS just for use on yesterday’s occasion: Campus Online Registration Spoil, Cannot Online Register Sia! Keke… It’s bo liao things like these that keep us going in Nothing Up Stairs. Cheap thrills…

Anyway went to Carl’s Jr on Wednesday to try out the food. Been hearing quite alot about it from some of my friends, but have not had the chance to go check it out for myself. Finally went with laopo on Wednesday evening to try… Think overall the food not bad lah. Burgers were big, the serving for the large fries were generous, & free flow of drinks. However it was abit pricey though. A burger costs about $7+ & a set with fires and drink costs about $10+. If you want to upsize your fries & drink you have to pay more too. Guess I still prefer Burger King. BUT, it is definitely much better than McDonald’s.

Sienz ah, have to get back to work liao. Have to do stuff for next week’s presentation & 1st round of tutorials. The cycle for the poor overworked student begins again… Have a good weekend, people. Try to enjoy yourselves…

Sighz, No Voting for the Presidential Elections After All…

Monday, August 15th, 2005

Sienz ah… Thought would get a chance to vote for the Presidential Elections although I was hoping to much to get a chance to exercise my voting rights. Don’t think will get a chance for the GE as well… Think Singapore might go into the Guiness Book of Records for having the most number (or highest proportion) of people who have never participated in an election despite living in a democratic country. Sounds good eh? Another list in which our nation’s name is right at the top, among others like best airports, seaports etc…

Come to think about it, aren’t we really fortunate that Mr Nathan had agreed to serve another term as President? Imagine if he didn’t- we’d be without a president as it has been officially declared/implied that there is no other candidate fit to take up that post! If he had not agreed to serve another term, or if the docs had declared him not physically fit enough to serve, there will be no president for us now, & we might have to resort to the truly-Singaporean HR solution: foreign talent!

OK jokes aside, I must state my stand that I have got absolutely nothing against Mr Nathan. From what I have seen/read/heard about him, he is a good man, a gentleman & we would have little to worry about with him as the Head of State. It just the fact that on one hand the government is urging people to step forward & try to take up government leadership positions, but is rejecting most, if not all the applications that come along. Do they really worry that we are not matured enough to decide for ourselves whom we wish to have leading the people? In fact, if indeed all 4 applications were approved I would still have voted for Mr Nathan. My mind had already been made up. It is just that if they had gone ahead with it, Mr Nathan would then be taking up that position again as truly the people’s choice. I have not doubted for a moment that he was the best choice we had, & he had the best chance of winning the election. An election would have gone a long way in providing credibility for his taking office. Unfortunately he was not done that favour.

Well better not continue anymore. Politics in Singapore is still a taboo topic after all. Apply to be president & you get your applications rejected. Talk too much & you get sued. Better continue to be the low-profile citizen who is too busy thinking ways of making money & pondering over the issue of migration that I have been, & that many of us are…

Sienz ah, School Starting Liao…

Hehe been working at the Samsung roadshow at Orchard, just in front of the Hello shop opposite Mandarin hotel. Although sales were not exactly wonderful, but it was pretty fun. Nice people we were working with… 8 of us, & as the rest said, the view was good to haha. Pity tomorrow is my last day there before school starts again.

Our resident chee ko peks, Max & Fei had a field day at the roadshow… They were full of energy the whole day, regardless of how bad the weather was or how lousy sales were. Their morale was always kept high. Every once in awhile, we would hear them exclaiming, "10 o’clock, target in white top, not wearing bra"; "12 o’clock, target in black pants, g-string showing"; "2 o’clock target in pink top, wearing thongs" (they watch for the VPL apparently), "60 degrees right, target in blue top, give 3/4 ball, nipple also can see!" etc… They were super alert, their radars always working very efficiently. No pretty face, good figure, or "over-exposure" could escape their eyes. Sometimes you do wonder whether they were there to work or something else haha. but at least they kept us entertained with their jokes *most of the time at the expenses of the "targets"*, but I was accused of not contributing enough, & not having sharp enough eyes that they concluded that I should undergo some training.

But working at Orchard has really been a new experience. It’s really a wonder how some people can stand walking around with make-up so thick that I literally can’t see their skin on the face. Or there are some who dress like prostitutes, or like I always like to say, "purposely wanna catch cold". But one thing I noticed- usually those who dress to get noticed are those who wouldn’t get noticed if they didn’t dress like that. Hmm…

However the most memorable was this pair of Korean girls who bought an MP3 player from me. One of them was super cute (for the lack of a better description) She had that kind of smile which could melt any man’s heart, & a wonderful figure to match. Simply irresistible I would say. Furthermore her dressing was very tastefully done. She could flaunt her great figure without looking like a prostitute. Hehe & somehow I ended up chatting with them after closing the sale, & found out that they were from Seoul & working in Singapore for their national airlines for a period of 1 year. Couldn’t put it into words, but she was really very cute & sexy at the same time without looking bitchy or slutty. Something for the Singaporean girls to think about…

Hmm… shall not go on too much. Seems response for my previous posting did not receive as much attention as I thought it would. I had thought that the links were funny… But maybe my brand of humour is quite different from everyone else’s… Anyway wish me good luck for the upcoming new semester. See you guys around   :)
